POWHATAN, AR - A free event will focus on war and religion in Northeast Arkansas.

The Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives will host a symposium from 9:30 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Male and Female Academy in Powhatan.

The symposium is titled, "All We Need is Love: War and Religion in Northeast Arkansas."

Several topics will be discussed including Holy War in the Delta: The Jonesboro Church Wars and American Fundamentalism in the Great Depression; Pushing Him Back Over the Pulpit: David Orr and Religious Conflict in Early Arkansas; and The African Methodist Episcopal Church in NE Arkansas.

Speakers include Sister Laura Cathcart, Dr. R.J. Hampton, Edward Harthorn, and Dr. Daniel Spillman.

The seminar is free, but you must register by Aug. 17.

According to the news release, teachers can earn up to four professional development hours by attending.

Lunch will be provided.
