BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

A Blytheville man faces animal cruelty charges after police say they found his dog dead.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a call in the 4400-block of East State Highway 18.

According to an incident report, officers found a dead golden retriever chained to a cable anchored in the ground.

Police noted the dog had no food or water.

The suspect reportedly told officers when he returned home from work between 10 and 11 a.m. Friday he put the dog outside to use the bathroom. The man said he fell asleep and forgot the animal.

A neighbor’s child found the dog with blood coming out of its mouth.
