Poplar Bluff man sentenced for manslaughter

Driver in fatal wreck sentence to six years

RANDOLPH COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A Poplar Bluff man will spend several years behind bars following an investigation into a fatal crash in February 2015.

According to court documents, Bruce Stevens, 23, was sentenced to six years in prison for charges of manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and careless and prohibited driving.

Those charges stem from a crash that killed Jim Austin, 80, of Peach Orchard on Feb. 9, 2015.

The crash summary from the Arkansas State Police states the car Stevens was driving crossed the center line and hit Austin head on.

The Arkansas State Crime Lab report showed the following substances found in Stevens's blood: benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, nordiazepam, and diazepam.

The report also showed that Stevens had a blood alcohol content of .082.
