JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Local, city and state leaders gathered with representatives from Hispanic Community Services, Inc. Tuesday for a groundbreaking.

HCSI of Jonesboro is expanding.

They unveiled plans and broke ground at the site of their new facility, located at the corner of Cate Avenue and Vandyne Street.

Board member Susan Hanrahan said this expansion is something the Hispanic community has been needing for some time now.

"Our Hispanic population has continued to grow and I think a lot of it is word of mouth," Hanrahan said. "That we are a friendly environment for all individuals and the opportunity to come to a center that really doesn't exist anywhere in Arkansas."

There are about 6,000 Hispanics in the Jonesboro community and around 13,000 in Craighead County.

The new building will be twice as big as the old facility.

They expect to have the project complete by April 2017.
