JONESBORO, AR - Forecasters are expecting an outbreak of severe spring storms in Region 8, possibly as early as today. Today's thunderstorm risk is perceived only as slight at this time, but the current system bringing heavy rain to the region is the first of several episodes of weather that are expected to have a more definite impact by tomorrow.
According to K8 Chief Meteorologist Chad Watson, "The main threat for today will be very large hail and damaging straight-line winds. Paramaters are fairly weak for tornadoes today, but any of the isolated supercells that may form over the area late this afternoon could spin up a brief touchdown."
Forecasters are more concerned about Friday. The K8 Storm Team is forecasting a major outbreak of severe storms and tornadoes on Friday. According to Watson, "A few long track-violent tornadoes may be possible over areas of Arkansas, west Tennessee and southeast Missouri, along with destructive hail and damaging straight-line winds."
