Child found walking along busy road

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Department of Human Services removed three children from a Jonesboro home after police reported finding a one-year-old child walking along a busy road.

A woman found the child walking on Johnson Avenue around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon and immediately called police.

Several children told Officer Nicholas Dumond their "auntie" was watching the child when he disappeared and they had been looking for him, the incident report stated. It appeared the child attempted to follow his cousins to the store and became lost.

Dumond contacted DHS while waiting for the child's mother to arrive at the scene.

The DHS agent decided to take the child "due to the extreme potential of death or injuries from this incident," the report stated. The DHS official also took the mother's two other children, ages 5 and 6, "for their safety."

As of this time, no charges have been filed.
