TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) -

A Trumann church pastor and his youth group served lunch to local teachers on Wednesday before the school year kicks off.

Pastor John Maley with First Baptist Church said the luncheon is a part of their Mission Trumann event.

It includes the youth group reaching out to people in the community to help break down barriers between one another.

They served lunch to all the teachers and staff in the Trumann School District.

Some even got to visit with their future educators.

“I know the hours they put in to work, and so we just want to have the time to serve them,” Maley said. “They serve our community so well.  We have a lot of church members that are also teachers, and so we're just serving our community letting them know we love them and we are there to care for them.”

The youth members held a soccer camp on Monday for younger children in the community as part of Mission Trumann.

To continue their serving efforts, they plan to deliver cookies to city workers and local businesses on Thursday.

On Friday, they will host a luncheon to all first responders.
