Tips on Buying A Home...Part Two

April 28, 2005 – Posted at 3:21 p.m. CDT

JONESBORO, AR -- Realtors sold nearly a thousand homes in Jonesboro last year alone, at an average price of $130,000 dollars each. And with so many homes buying and selling, and that much money changing hands, how do you know when you are getting a good deal?

House hunting can be pretty tiring, so it's smart to remember to wear comfortable shoes. You may look at just a few houses or it may take dozens before you find the one that you fall in love with, but one thing to remember, this is your decision and there's really no reason to be in a hurry.

“It's not really a difficult process, but you just need someone to take you by the hand and lead you step by step,” said Century 21 Principle Broker Kenny Gardner, “We want the home buying process to be pleasant.”

You've been pre-approved for a loan and are ready for the house hunt. Now for the next step...

“Find a realtor that you feel comfortable with. Sit down with them, talk to them about what you want,” said Century 21 realtor Chris White.

Listing the things you want in a home can help your realtor look for you and give you a better idea of what's important.

“Once they start looking, what they want changes,” said White.

And be ready to look...remember it might take a while.

“Finding the home, the loan process, getting title work done, everything ready for takes about 30 to 45 days after you decide on the home,” said Gardner.

Homes that are for sell by owners can save money, but it may be a little extra work.

“We are helping people realize a dream, of home ownership. The American dream I guess,” said Gardner.

Hopefully you've got a few tips on purchasing your first home and all you'll really have to worry about is packing up the china and moving. We wish you the best of luck!
