UPDATE: Boozman's ag tour changed due to officer's death

(KAIT) - Tuesday, Aug. 16, UPDATE: U.S. Sen. John Boozman has canceled his scheduled Ag Tour stops in Region 8 on Tuesday in order to attend the funeral of Deputy Bill Cooper.

Cooper, a member of the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office, died in the line of duty last week.

Senator Boozman's office did not say if or when the canceled stops would be rescheduled.

U.S. Senator John Boozman will be hitting the road for his 6th annual agriculture tour and making multiple stops in Region 8.

Boozman hopes to highlight the importance of the industry to Arkansas.

"The agriculture industry is an economic driver for our state. As Congress prepares the next farm bill, it's important for me to hear the ideas of our farmers, ranchers, and producers about how we can improve this legislation. Having input from those in the industry is vital to crafting legislation that meets the needs of agriculture," said Boozman.

This year Boozman's Ag Tour will include meetings with producers, ranchers, farmers, and more.

He plans to visit farms, production facilities, and agriculture educational programs.

Boozman will also be joined by state and local officials at many of the stops.

He will speak at the Ag Council of Arkansas's meeting in Jonesboro and attend the Grady Fish Fry on Thursday.

Boozman's 2016 Ag Tour also includes stops at:

  • The Cleburne County Livestock Auction
  • Ozark Mountain Poultry Processing Plant in Batesville
  • Peco Poultry Processing Plant in Pocahontas
  • Harrisburg Farm to School Program
  • Tour Vo-Ag Program at Green County Tech
  • Arkansas State University’s Farmers Market
  • Wildy Farms in Manila –2015 Arkansas Farm Family of the Year
  • Moery Farm in Wynne
