JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Keller family broke ground on a convention center while also making a second announcement.
The Jonesboro Hyatt Place and Convention Center will be the new home for the St. Jude S'Travaganza.
This year the event coordinators, Fred and Susan Cathcart, found out they could no longer use the old fairgrounds building since it changed owners.
Since then the Cathcarts have been looking for a new location and the Keller family answered their prayers.
"We are thrilled. It is such a blessing," Susan Cathcart said. "We have prayed we would find a place for this. We are still looking for 2017 but for 2018 forward this just gives us thousands and thousands more dollars that we can send to St. Jude and the kids at St. Jude."
Cathcart said Halsey, Thrasher and Harpole helped get the couple in touch with the family building the convention center.
"We are grateful to the Keller family and grateful to Harpole, Halsey and Thrasher for putting us in touch with them and we are just really excited we have this new opportunity and a new place to have the event," Susan Cathcart said.
Chris Keller, who is heading the convention center project locally, said he is excited to help with such a great event.
The Cathcarts are still looking for a place for the 2017 event since the convention center will not be completed until after January 2017.
Keller said he is trying to work on a plan for the event this upcoming year if possible.
"We are going to see if we can do something possibly temporarily for this year to even help them host that," Keller said.
The Cathcarts said they will still have the 2017 event they just need a place, but they are excited to not worry about the other years to come.
"We really appreciate them and welcome them to Jonesboro," Fred Cathcart said.
