KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - UPDATE: August 18, 2016: A local contractor detailed his plan for a piece of property that has sat vacant for quite some time.

Stan Morris of Stan Morris Construction told Region 8 News that he plans to renovate an old home on 710 North Jackson Street in Kennett. Morris, who said he has refurbished multiple homes in town, said he wants to bring new life into old properties.

He also said the property on North Jackson has been rezoned in order to allow someone to buy the property and then rent it if those chose.

The Kennett City Council recently approved a measure that would allow a contractor to build several duplexes in town, but some are not happy with the plan.

Mayor Bob Hancock said a contractor plans to add duplexes on North Jackson Street.

A home sitting on the lot at 710 North Jackson burned, and now Stan Morris, a local contractor wants to bring purpose to the property.

Mike Benson has lived across the street for several years. He said he is against the multi-family rezoning project.

Benson believes this will bring more problems to his neighborhood.

"I think it'll lower the value of it even more," Benson said. "I think it'll turn a lot of people away from wanting to live down here because duplexes in the past have not had a good reputation."

Hancock said the council also approved rezoning efforts at 203 South Walnut, duplexes are also expected on that residential lot.
