JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The city of Jonesboro is a little bit bigger after the city council voted to annex some land into the city.

The 20 acres of land is situated south of Macedonia Road and north of Sage Meadows.

That land will now be part of Sage Meadows.

Fire Chief Kevin Miller weighed in on the annexation when it was first brought before the city.

In a letter regarding any issues the fire department may have with the annexation, Miller stated that the department did not have any issues but that the fire department "is not in favor of any annexations."

"The City covers over 80-square miles of territory now," Miller said in the letter. "Any additional annexations along with the continued growth and development particular in the northeast section of the city will require additional resources (stations & personnel) in the future to provide for the public safety needs and maintain our ISO rating."

Regardless, the annexation passed with an 8-2 vote.

Aldermen Bobby Long and Todd Burton voted against the annexation.
