JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Employees of an adult store said when a woman attempted to steal a $200 sex toy she begged them not to call deputies. When that didn't work, they say she "went crazy" and tried to break down the door.
Craighead County sheriff's deputies arrested Rhonda Lee Phillips, 43, of Wynne on suspicion of shoplifting and an out of town warrant.
According to the initial incident report, Phillips attempted to walk out of Seductions, 5071 S. Highway 1, with a $200 sex toy for couples. Employees told deputies as Phillips tried to leave the store, she set off the theft-detection alarm.
They say Phillips initially denied taking anything. But, after triggering the alarm on her second attempt to leave the store, employees said Phillips admitted she had taken the device and pulled it out of her purse.
Despite her pleas for them "not to call the cops," workers called the sheriff's office and reported the attempted theft.
While waiting for deputies to arrive, they said Phillips "began to act crazy" and tried to break down the store's glass doors. "She repeatedly kicked and pushed and jammed her keys into the door," the report stated.
After a deputy arrived and took her into custody, Phillips claimed she was "hot and having trouble breathing." He called an ambulance to the scene which took her to a local hospital to be checked out.
While investigating the case, the deputy learned Phillips was wanted on warrants in Poinsett County and a felony warrant in Texas.
She is currently being held in the Craighead County Detention Center awaiting a probable cause hearing.
