WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) -

Heavy rains caused major flooding in Walnut Ridge worrying home and business owners.

“I woke up and looked outside and I was just floored,” Amy Russell said.

Amy Russell’s home is right off Oak Street in Walnut Ridge.

Her ditches and yard were full of water Friday morning.

Luckily no water got inside her home, but she said this has been a common problem since moving to Walnut Ridge in May.

Russell explains it's worse for her neighbor.

“I mean as the traffic goes by if they go fast enough, it's going to push the water up, you know the ripples,” Russell said. “So I'm worried about her right now.”

Russell’s lawn mower was damaged by the water.

Steve Wade owns Steve’s Muffler Shop right in front of Russell’s home.

No water got inside his shop, but his parking lot was covered in water. Wade said this is something he anticipated when he built his business in 2001.

“We had put 19 inches of dirt on top of what was there,” Wade said. “Then we put our concrete on top of that, and I still get water up to the door.”

Wade said he knows while he is lucky, other businesses and homes nearby will have water inside to clean up.

Russell hopes to see the city do something about the areas that often flood.
