CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

The Craighead County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a missing person on the St. Francis River.

According to Sheriff Marty Boyd, a fisherman found an overturned boat Saturday.

Due to high water and swift current, the sheriff’s office searched by boat until dark Saturday.

They are searching near Jackson Landing, which is northwest of Monette.

Boyd said the missing man is 35-year-old Erick Perez from Leachville.

According to Captain Justin Rolland with the Craighead County Sheriff’s Department, a call came in around 10:30 Saturday morning about a missing person.

Perez and two others reportedly capsized their boat around 12 a.m. Saturday.

The two people with Perez said all three of them swam back to the shore safely but Perez swam back out for an unknown reason.

Craighead County Officials believe he was going to retrieve something but never returned.

So far, officials have been searching since Friday night.

Saturday night, they suspended their search for Perez but they plan to start again Sunday morning.

Rolland said they are very thankful for Monette Police Department, Monette and Lake City Fire Departments, Arkansas Game and Fish, and other search crews who are assisting in this search.

He said all they can do now is wait. “Well the family is like us,” said Rolland. “We are all hoping for the best. They are just trying to wait patiently and we are trying to work our way through it.”
