JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - St. Bernards received gold status for the second year in a row.
The hospital was awarded the Mission Lifeline Receiving Center Gold Plus Award for their treatment of heart attack patients.
The national standard is to have blocked arteries opened within 90 minutes of a patient's arrival.
The St. Bernards heart care team achieves a time of 62 minutes.
One of those patients who has been treated at St. Bernards is Pastor Anthony Langley of Lepanto.
"I was having some chest pains and went to the local clinic and they were able to get me stabilized and get me on an ambulance and to the cath lab within 60 minutes," Langley said. "I was able to be cared for, given stints, and saved."
St. Bernards is the only hospital in the state to receive this honor.
