Appalachian State's Settle, Coastal Carolina's Austin Take Home Week 1 Women's Soccer Honors
Appalachian State’s Erin Settle and Coastal Carolina’s Becca Austin earned this week’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week awards after their efforts. The teams went a combined 3-0-1 in four matches last week. The Mountaineers posted a pair of wins over the weekend in defeating Northern Kentucky, 3-1, and Davidson, 1-0. CCU battled Furman to a scoreless double-overtime draw and then defeated Wofford, 4-0.

Settle had a breakout first week for the Mountaineers after missing all of last season because of an ACL tear. In her first two games, Appalachian went 2-0 against Northern Kentucky and Davidson, the first time App State has started 2-0 since 1999.

Settle had one goal in the game again a NKU and the game-winning goal against Davidson on Sunday. With three shots and all of them on goal, her SOG% was 100 percent.

Austin, a senior, recorded two shutouts this past weekend. Austin kept the score to a 0-0 tie versus Furman after the Paladins continued its high pressure in the first overtime testing Austin and forcing the senior to make two crucial saves. Austin kept the Chants in the game making 10 saves - all of which were on frame - over the 110 minutes of play.

Continuing her strong weekend, Austin assisted in the Chanticleers 4-0 shutout victory versus Wofford. The senior played a full 75 minutes to secure the win before she was subbed out. Austin only had to make one save the entire 75 minutes improving her save percentage to 0.778.
