PULASKI COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

The American Civil Liberties Union of Arkansas filed a lawsuit against a central Arkansas city, judge, and county claiming they wrongfully jailed citizens.

According to KATV in Little Rock, the suit was filed Tuesday against the city of Sherwood, District Court Judge Milas “Butch” Hale, and Pulaski County.

The suit was filed on behalf of four people who were jailed by the hot check division of the Sherwood District Court and one taxpayer due to their inability to pay court fines and fees.

The ACLU states it’s unconstitutional to jail someone if they cannot pay their debts.
