Highway commission approves bids for road improvements

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Arkansas State Highway Commission approved bids for improvements to several Region 8 roads.

According to the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, the AHC approved the following projects:

  • Clay County:  Resurface 2.3 miles of County Road 53 west of the Piggott City Limits. Delta Asphalt of Arkansas, Inc. of Paragould awarded $338,656.65 contract. Completion expected in late 2016.
  • Greene County: Resurface 2.8 miles of County Roads 25 near Paragould and 71 near Marmaduke. Delta Asphalt of Arkansas, Inc. of Paragould awarded $359,609.32 contract. Completion expected in late 2016.
  • Izard County: Resurface 3.7 miles of county roads to include selected sections of Wideman Road, County Road 55 (Johnson View Road) near Wiseman, West Road near Mount Pleasant, and County Road 61 near Bone Town. Atlas Asphalt, Inc. of Batesville awarded $624,740.36 contract. Completion expected in late 2016.
  • Poinsett County: Resurface two miles of County Roads 684 near Weiner, 85 near Lepanto, 34 near Lake Poinsett, 283 near Lake Poinsett, and to restripe selected sections of 16.7 miles of those county roads. Atlas Asphalt, Inc. of Batesville awarded $211,934.22 contract. Completion expected in late 2016.
  • White County: 3.7 miles of new location for State Highway 13 in Northwest Searcy between State Highways 36 and 16. McGeorge Contracting Company, Inc. of Pine Bluff awarded contract of $11,385,565.72. Completion expected in late 2017.

Work on each project is expected to begin within the next two to four weeks, weather permitting.
