Food pantry stays open despite vandalism

Cherry Valley Food Pantry Vandalized

CHERRY VALLEY, AR (KAIT) - A local food pantry will continue to serve the community after being vandalized this week.

Joan Ball, director of the Cherry Valley Food Pantry says three teenagers broke into the pantry on Tuesday and Wednesday. They were later arrested.

They dumped drinks on the floor, spray painted the walls and used a fire extinguisher inside the pantry, Ball said.

Items were sprayed with the extinguisher. However, a storage room with more food was not impacted.

Ball said the cost of the damage is still being assessed and clean-up is underway.

Despite the vandalism, Ball said the pantry will be open on Tuesday, Aug. 30 to serve the community.
