STEELE, MO (KAIT) -

Police arrested a woman Thursday after they said she left her three children inside a hot car while she shoplifted.

Steele police arrested 22-year-old Coisha McVay on suspicion of first-degree child endangerment.

Around 3 p.m. Thursday officers responded to the parking lot of Dollar General, 315 N. Walnut, regarding three small children left inside a parked car.

Chief Billy Joe Stanfield said the car’s windows were “slightly cracked open.” The children—all under the age of 5—were “wet with sweat.”

Officers removed the children and placed them into an air-conditioned cruiser.

The heat index at the time of the incident was 100 degrees, Stanfield said.

Officers went inside the store to locate McVay and “discovered she was allegedly stealing (shoplifting) merchandise from the store,” Stanfield said.

She was taken to the Pemiscot County Jail where she is being held in lieu of $35,000 bond.
