KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - A man charged with murder out of Kennett will be arraigned next week.
According to Captain Tim Trowbridge with Kennett police, 29-year-old Josue Rivera will be arraigned Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Dunklin County Justice Center.
Rivera is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of Francisco Mendez on Aug. 21.
According to police, officers responded to shots fired in the 300-block of Miss Clara Drive around 12:57 a.m.
They found Mendez lying on the ground, bleeding and unresponsive.
He was taken to Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Police said both men attended a quinceñera for the victim's daughter Saturday night.
According to the probable cause statement, Rivera and Mendez got into an argument at the party before Rivera left.
Mendez then reportedly went to Rivera's girlfriend's house to fight after Rivera refused to come back to the party.
The men got into a fight on the front porch and that's when Mendez was shot.
Rivera left the scene before officers arrived but was later arrested in Memphis.
