JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro police were dispatched to the Walmart on Parker Road early Sunday morning in regards to a suspect attempting to shoplift.
An employee suspected that Jeffery Vaulner, 36, grabbed two OtterBox cell phone cases to steal them.
Police waited for Vaulner to leave the store. That is when they detained him so he could not run.
Vaulner attempted to pull away from the officer and also kicked him while he was being handcuffed.
Once another officer arrived, police ran Vaulner through dispatch and learned he was on parole.
Although police did not find the stolen property on Vaulner, they did find a prescription pill bottle inside the truck he was driving.
The prescription bottle belonged to Vaulner; however, there were two separate types of pills inside.
Police told Walmart's lost prevention officer that Vaulner did not have the stolen items on him.
Store officials told police that they found empty packaging of the items that Vaulner took, saying he must have handed them over to a woman he was spotted with in the store.
Vaulner was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where he faces charges of possession of scheduled 4 or 5 substance less than 28 grams, obstructing governmental operations, resisting arrest, second-degree assault, and parole violation.
