ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Lyon men’s soccer player Ulises Caba Cordova has been named the American Midwest Conference offensive player of the week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Cordova garners the honor after totaling four points, and scoring two goals in an overtime win in Lyon’s home opener over Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) on Saturday. His second goal of the game came with just over two minutes left in the first overtime period.
Lyon’s victory over Martin Methodist was the team’s first of the season, after having a 3-0 setback in the team’s opener at John Brown University (Ark.) on Aug. 20. The Scots trailed 2-1 in the second half, before Jack Fleming scored the game tying goal in the 80th minute. Cordova then followed that up with his late game heroics in the 98th minute of the game.
Cordova leads the team with two goals scored and is second on the squad with six total shots. He also has a .500 shot on goal percentage.
Cordova and the Scots host NCAA Division II the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) on Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
