GREENE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

A reserve deputy from Greene County died Monday after a two-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jay P. Mayfield was with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department for a little over one year as a reserve deputy.

Sheriff Carter said he was one of the first people to complete his required hours under the reserve deputy program that was implemented last year.

A post on the department’s Facebook page said Mayfield was an outstanding officer and was loved and respected by all in the department.

Mayfield also worked in management at Walmart.

He leaves behind a wife and two children.
