City council approves additional funding for golf course

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - The Blytheville City Council approved additional funding to keep the Thunder Bayou Golf Links open.

Since the city is looking to repurpose the park, Mayor James Sanders said the money was not budgeted for a full year, and funds had to be appropriated to keep it open.

Finance Director John Callens said the council approved $133,315 taken from tax revenue and a fund balance from previous years, to keep the course operational through the end of the year.

Sanders said the city has plans to repurpose Thunder Bayou into a walking and biking trail.

According to Callens, the funds approved by the council also cover an $18,500 environmental study to be completed by an independent firm.

A date has not been chosen for the environmental study.
