JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The harvest season has started in Region 8, and one group decided to show off what can be created with the rice grown in our area.

A rice tasting event took place Friday afternoon in the Region’s building.

The foods that created included meatballs and cookies with rice.

Karie Gibson, co-chair of the Craighead County Women’s Committee, said this was their way of celebrating national rice month.

“It’s just showing the committee how agriculture is such an important part to our community and how we consume the rice just in so many different ways,” Gibson said.

Craighead County Judge Ed Hill also proclaimed September as rice month in the county.

Gibson said the recipes from Friday’s event can be found on the Craighead County Farm Bureau Facebook page for anyone interested.
