Region 8 Woman Spins the Wheel of Fortune

KENNETT, MO -- For most people, the closest they get to spinning the Wheel of Fortune is in a casino. But for one lucky Region 8 woman, having a chance to solve the puzzle became a reality.

“My mom has always wanted to be on something like that, so she didn't tell me that I was going to be on there until we got accepted...so it was a little surprising,” laughed Kennett resident Lindsey Gardner.

Gardner and her mother Lavonia Baxter of Sedalia, Missouri got a chance to spin the Wheel of Fortune as part of this weeks 'Mom and Me' series. They auditioned and taped the show in Kansas City, Missouri.

“They wanted to see how well your voice carried, and how well you knew the game and how fast you played. We took a written test and they gave us five minutes to see how many puzzles we can do,” said Gardner.

But don't think being on wheel is an easy spin. Gardner said the wheel was smaller and heavier than it looks on television. She said they weren’t allowed to bring cameras to the set and security was tight.

“We we're secure all day. There was security with us and we had to ask every time we went to the restroom and they watched us all day until we were on the show,” said Gardner.

And it's a little tougher than it looks.

“At home you can just yell out and it's always your turn, and playing with somebody else, you have to whisper to them,” said Gardner, “So that was a little difficult trying to take your turn and stay quiet.”

But Gardner says it was the chance of a lifetime.

“I would love to do it again!” laughed Gardner, “My mom is hoping they will call us back and give us another chance, but I don't think that's going to happen.”
