Hoxie boil order for E. coli extended

HOXIE, AR (KAIT) - The City of Hoxie is still under a precautionary boil order, according to Mayor Lanny Tinker.

Tinker said the Arkansas Department of Health placed the city under the precautionary boil order until Sept. 9 but it has now been extended until at least Monday.

He said they were verbally told that their first set of tests came back clean, but the health department still has to run some more tests.

Those tests will not be run until Monday.

Bacteria that is unsafe for consumption was found at one testing site.

That bacteria is E. coli according to the Arkansas Department of Health.

The Hoxie Water Department is taking preventive measures according to Tinker.

Citizens should briskly boil water for one minute and throw out ice cubes.
