JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Hilltop area in Jonesboro continues growing, but with that growth comes increasing traffic concerns.
First National Bank recently announced the addition of First National Financial Park to the area.
The facility will be 60,000 square feet and will house a community room as well as an outdoor terrace available to the public.
But many residents feel traffic flow may be an even bigger concern.
Mark Nichols, traffic operations engineer for the City of Jonesboro, says the city knows there are traffic concerns in the area and they are already planning ahead.
"In many ways, it's good that we can know about these developments, you know on the front end, because there is planning in place for the highway department to make improvements in that area," said Nichols.
However, Paulette Lovins who lives in the Highway 49 area says that traffic continues to be an issue for her daily.
"It's hard to get pulled out over where I live," said Lovins. "You have to sit there for sometimes 15 to 20 minutes before you can get pulled out, especially between certain times of the day."
Brookland resident Herbert Honeycutt says he has seen the Hilltop area traffic go from bad to worse.
"It used to be early in the morning, late afternoon, now it's all day long," said Honeycutt.
According to Nichols, the highway department's Statewide Transportation Improvement Program has $27 million identified for the Hilltop, Highway 351 and Highway 49 area.
Nichols says while plans are in the works, it can take years to plan and design a project of this magnitude.
