LEPANTO, AR (KAIT) -

Several Lepanto Police Department employees quit Tuesday after learning that Mayor Dale Dunlap asked the police chief to step down.

Three dispatchers and two officers quit after Dunlap asked Police Chief Chad Henderson to step down to a patrolman.

Instead of entering into that position, Henderson quit.

The position was immediately filled. The new police chief is David Kinney.

Dunlap said many employees were not happy with his decision and felt they could not work under Kinney.

The city now has two full-time officers and four part-time officers.

Dunlap said there have been people willing to volunteer their time if the department needs it.
