JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro police are searching for someone with sticky fingers who stole several rent checks from a local apartment complex.

Tuesday morning the manager of Williamsburg Apartments, 1601 Aggie, reported several checks had been stolen from the drop box over the weekend.

The last time she checked the box was around 4 p.m. Friday. When she checked it at 10 a.m. Tuesday, there were “very few checks inside” which she said was “unusual.”

The manager also noticed a “clear sticky residue stuck to the inside of the drop box.”

She contacted the delinquent tenants, whom she described in the incident report as “trustworthy and reliable,” and discovered they had placed their checks in the box over the weekend.

The woman then contacted her manager and learned that sometime over the weekend thieves had done the same thing at other apartment complexes they manage.

Officer Joseph Branstetter inspected the drop box and reported seeing a clear sticky substance along the inside of the box. He then advised the manager to contact the tenants and have them put a stop on the checks.

At this time, there are no listed suspects.
