HOXIE, AR (KAIT) -

Residents of Hoxie are taking extra precautions since a boil water order was announced Tuesday night.

A few restaurant workers said they have had to change their daily routine on short notice.

While the restaurants have to deal with this one day at a time, they aren’t the only ones dealing with the issue.

The Hoxie School District’s cafeteria staff estimated they boiled 30 pots of water on Wednesday alone.

"We had to boil the water to make the tea. We had to boil water and then cool it down to wash the green peppers and onions that went into the baked beans," said Regina Bennett, kitchen manager.

Even though the school was not in session when the order was given, the staff jumped into action.

"We had a volleyball game last night, so we had to get some things out to tell people not to use the water fountains," said Superintendent Radius Baker. "We tried to make sure that all water supplies had notes on them that said don't use."

Some local businesses donated cases of water to the school.

The city hopes the order will be lifted on Friday.
