KENNETT, MO (KAIT) -

Kennett police located 2 dogs that were chained on each side of a residence.

According to a report, police noticed the dogs were suffering from the heat and stress.

The first dog, a pit bull, had a log chain and padlocks around its neck with no collar. The dog also had trouble raising its head from the weight of the chain pulling on it.

Police said the second dog, a Chow-Chow mix, "smelled like roadkill" and had a collar embedded in its neck that was slowly decapitating it.

After police received a warrant, both dogs were taken into custody of Kennett Humane Department and taken to the Kennett Veterinary Clinic to be treated for injuries and parasites.

Police also said charges have been filed but no name was released.
