KENNETT, MO (KAIT) -

The Kennett Police Department and several other law enforcement agencies conducted a raid Thursday morning in which at least five suspects were taken into custody for drug charges.

According to a news release, officers have been working on reports of drug activity in the area of Ninth Street in Kennett for the last several months. Captain Tim Trowbridge said the drug activity took place near Jones Park and the South Elementary School.

“After investigation with several overdoses involving K2, investigators were directed to this area as being a primary source of the drug being distributed,” the news release stated. “With this information, officers conducted and continue to conduct targeted narcotics cases specifically in this area.”

Investigators and officials with multiple police agencies conducted search warrants on Ninth Street and in “drug-ridden apartments”. Officers took K2 and other controlled substances and paraphernalia used to sell controlled substances.

Trowbridge told Region 8 News that other arrests are expected over the next few days.

The following individuals have been arrested in connection to the raid:

  • Otis Yancey, 45, Kennett
  • Jackie Anthony, 36, Kennett
  • Byron Norris, 23, Kennett
  • Shanika Arnett, 22, Kennett
  • Cornelius Middleton, 36, Hayti
  • Pamela Simms, 33, Kennett -

“Today we have taken back the 9th Street area! Thanks to the hard work of the Kennett Street Department, the code enforcement, and the park department we began cleaning up that area as well,” the release stated. “The men and women who work behind the scenes with these departments help up to keep the trash off the streets of Kennett.”
