JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas State University's System President Dr. Charles Welch spoke at the Political Animals meeting Friday.

The meeting was held at the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Welch applauded A-State for their work on the campus in Querétaro, Mexico. He also spoke about the new interim chancellor of the university, Dr. Doug Whitlock.

He said Whitlock would arrive in Jonesboro sometime Friday and will officially begin his work as interim chancellor on Monday.

"I think he is perfectly suited to help us and that external perspective is very valuable," Welch said.

A search for a new permanent chancellor will begin next spring.

President Welch said the search will be collaborative and include representatives from alumni, the student body, and the faculty.
