Police arrest sex offender found living near city park

BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Police in Gassville arrested a man for failing to register as a sex offender.

According to a press release from the Baxter County Sheriff's Department, Alton Bruce Cooke, 25, was registered as living at a home in the 300 block of South Johnson Street in Gassville.

The release said Cooke had actually been staying at a home on Kelley Lane, which is close to the Gassville City Park.

Cooke, a sex offender, cannot live in close proximity to a park.

Gassville police took him into custody with the help of the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections.

Cooke was taken to the Baxter County Detention Center.

He faces a felony failure to register charge, felony parole violation, and a misdemeanor for failure to appear, according to the release.

He has a $15,000 bond for his failure to register charge but is being held without bond for the parole violation.

Cooke is set to appear in circuit court on Sept. 22.
