TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Harding women's golf shot its best round of the young season Monday with a 339 in the opening round of the 18th Annual NSU Golf Classic, played at the par-72, 5,927-yard Cherokee Springs Golf Course.
The Lady Bisons, who are in 13th place, were strong on par 3s, shooting 8-over, fifth-best among the 18-team field.
Harding shot 369 and 360 in its two rounds last week at the Central Region Fall Classic.
For the third consecutive round, freshman Harding Zhane Mayo led the Lady Bisons. She had two birdies on par 4s and shot 8-over 80. Mayo is tied for 26th, nine strokes back of leader Ebba Moberg of Northeastern State, who shot 1-under 71.
Central Oklahoma, ranked 28th in NCAA Division II, leads the team competition after round one at 297. Host Northeastern State is second, one stroke back.
Freshman Bryle Alcorn is second among Harding golfers. She shot 84 and is tied for 54th. Sophomore Delaney Bowles was the second-best golfer of the round on par 3s, playing them even par. She shot 86 and is tied for 61st.
Harding freshman Carlee Freeman shot 89 and is tied for 73rd, and juniorKatelyn Walker shot 97 and is tied for 90th.
The final round will be played Tuesday.
