TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) - Residents at the Stepping Stone Sanctuary, a homeless shelter in Trumann, are building furniture pieces to sell.
A portion of the proceeds go into their commissary accounts, and the rest goes back into the shelter funding.
It is the first job for some who did not even know how to use a hammer.
Victoria Risch-Martin living at the shelter said she had learned a lot about herself by fulfilling this simple task.
"If it wasn't for this place I would be out on the streets eating out of dumpsters," Martin said.
After learning these new skills, she realized she has a purpose.
"This right here is a trade, you know what I mean," Martin said. "To be able to get a trade here is an amazing opportunity. I love it because I can do this later on when I move on from here and teach these things to my son."
The shelter is taking orders for the custom-built pieces of furniture, which include tables, headboards, and footboards.
Anyone interested in making a purchase can call the mission at 870-227-0259.
