JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro police found a 66-year-old man lying in a ditch after a vehicle hit him.
The alleged hit-and-run happened around 6:30 Saturday night when police said Robert Douglas, 78, hit a man in a wheelchair near School and Dewey Streets.
The victim told police the driver hit him from behind, causing him to fall out of the wheelchair. The driver also left tire marks on his prosthetic leg.
A witness told police he heard a collision. After seeing the victim in the ditch, the witness chased a red GMC Sierra down the street to get the driver's attention, but he didn't stop.
Police found Douglas who said the sun was in his eyes when he felt like he hit something.
Douglas told authorities he stopped and looked around but did not see anything.
He also claimed he did not hear or see the man running down the street attempting to stop him.
After inspecting the driver's truck, police found a rub mark on the passenger side fender.
Douglas was cited for leaving the scene of an accident and is expected to appear in court Oct. 24.
According to the incident report, the victim refused all medical treatment.
