JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Ronald Rodger Rosemergy, 55, of Hot Springs Nation, AR died after being hit by a SUV in Jonesboro Sunday night.

According to a news release from the Jonesboro Police Department, police responded to a call at 7:53 p.m. regarding a man sleeping in front of Dollar General, 101 E. Johnson Ave.

Officers found Rosemergy and, at the request of Dollar General personnel, asked him to leave the property.

Rosemergy, according to the report, left on foot.

Officer Maurice Kinnard stated he watched as Rosemergy "walked off the sidewalk onto Johnson Avenue."

As Rosemergy crossed the street, Kinnard said he walked into the path of an oncoming Chevy Trailblazer.

Kinnard immediately radioed for an ambulance.

An ambulance took Rosemergy St. Bernards Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was not hurt but was taken to a local hospital to have blood drawn, which is required by state law.
