Man found guilty of sexually assaulting girl in 2014

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Paragould man will spend 10 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

The trial of Shawn Michael Deason, 36, ended Monday with a Craighead County jury finding him guilty of second-degree sexual assault. He had originally been charged with rape.

According to police documents, the assault occurred at a Jonesboro home where Deason was living at the time.

The victim, according to the initial incident report filed on May 29, 2014, said Deason had sex with her "on more than one occasion."

Initially, Deason denied the allegation and agreed to a polygraph test.

After failing the test, he agreed to a second interview on June 4, 2014.

During that interview, he told investigators he ran his hands over her breasts for several minutes then pulled her panties back and ran his hand down her stomach. He denied touching her vaginal area.

He told police it was the "only sexual contact" he had ever had with the child.
