T. LOUIS, Mo. – Lyon men’s soccer player Gianni Santin has been named the American Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
This is the freshman’s first honor after he totaled 12 saves in two games for the Scots last week. His key performance was an 11 save effort on the road against Park on Saturday, which was tabbed the AMC Game of the Week. The 11 saves were also the first time this season he has recorded double-digits in the category.
The Scots defeated St. Louis College of Pharmacy 7-1 last Thursday night, before claiming a 4-0 victory against Park on Saturday. The shutout against the Pirates was Lyon’s third shutout of the season.
Santin has recorded 21 saves thus far, while allowing just three goals in five games. He currently has a 0.875 save percentage and his 0.57 goals allowed average is ranked first in the conference.
Santin and Lyon (4-3-1) return to J. Marshall Huser Field on Saturday when they compete in another high octane Top 25 matchup. The Scots will host No. 4 Lindenwood University-Belleville at 3:30 p.m.
