JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The fair is in town and with it comes a traffic plan police said they have been using for a while.

Jonesboro police said they are hoping to avoid more traffic problems this year.

Officers working the fair exit and the entrance to help clear the roadways.

Police said this method has proven to work year after year.

"We try to get, to keep 49 cleared off as best we can,” said Sergeant George Martin. “The later part of the week Thursday, Friday, Saturday, when you have the armbands going on, we do get a lot more traffic."

Martin said they have also dedicated the right lane coming from Brookland to fair traffic only.

Police said despite the efforts of the department there is so much traffic that it takes time to clear roadways.

“We have caution signs up alerting motorists to slow down for fair traffic,” said Martin.  “If you know an alternate route, you may take an alternate route to avoid the fairgrounds altogether.”

Anyone going to the fair should expect delays and maintain caution while driving in the area.
