SOUTHSIDE, AR (KAIT) - The year-long search for land to build a new city hall for one of the newest towns in Arkansas has culminated in success.
Southside city officials said Tuesday that a four-acre plot of land at 2181 Batesville Road was purchased Sept. 14. A week earlier, council members approved a resolution allowing city officials to negotiate terms, funding, and to purchase the property.
Under the proposal, the city hall will include a building site for facilities with expansion room for future needs.
The work on the new city hall began in Sept. 2015 when council members held their first meeting. After the meeting, officials began looking for a building or land that could be used for a city hall.
In the interim, the Southside School allowed city officials to use an office on campus as a temporary city hall at 99 Scott Drive. The temporary location will continue to be used.
Residents can reach the city hall at 870-251-4026 while residents can contact officials at firstname.lastname@example.org.
