OSCEOLA, AR (KAIT) - The Osceola City Council approved an ordinance that created the Eastside Redevelopment Task Force.

The goal for the task force is to revitalize areas between downtown Osceola, the levee, and Keiser Street.

It will create a subdivision for low- to moderate-income families.

The plan is to demolish vacant homes that are owned by the city and clean-up the area.

"About a fourth of the houses in this area are vacant or boarded up and they may not be able to be brought back up to standard," said council member Sally Wilson. "About another fourth of the lots are empty lots with no house there so we've got a lot of opportunities. A lot of work ahead, to make some really good things happen."

Mayor Dickie Kennemore said that he wants residents living in that area to be proud of their home and surroundings.

The task force will meet an hour every other week to develop their strategy.
