BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - Police say a man was killed after striking a vehicle while riding a bicycle.
Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson stated in a news release that officers were called to a pedestrian-involved accident at the intersection of Arkansas Highway 18 and Franklin Street on Monday around 4:45 p.m.
Officers found 65-year-old Ezzard C. Shannon of Blytheville with "significant injuries from the accident," according to the chief.
Shannon was airlifted from the scene to a Memphis hospital where he later died from his injuries.
An investigation into the accident, according to Thompson, revealed Shannon was riding a bicycle and was attempting to cross Hwy. 18 against the traffic signal when he struck the door of a passing vehicle.
Thompson states criminal charges are not being sought in this incident.
