POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) - A Region 8 library is celebrating 100 years of service with several events.

The Poplar Bluff Municipal Library is celebrating its centennial birthday this year.

In honor of the celebration, the library is having a Book in the Bluff event.

With the reading of the book The Boys in the Boat comes book discussion groups and a rowing exhibition.

The rowing exhibition, presented by Sterling Bank, is Saturday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. at the Peoples Creek Recreation Area at Lake Wappapello.

Admission for the rowing exhibition is free and open to the public.

At the exhibition, you can catch the St. Louis Rowing Club in action.

There are also book discussion groups planned for the book The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown.

The book follows nine working-class boys from the American West and their journey to win gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

The discussions are on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.
