The Rio Olympics may be over, but Region 8 seniors went for gold Thursday.

The Paragould Community Center hosted the District 5 Senior Olympics.

Events included bean bag toss, horseshoes, dance contests, wheelchair races, and awards for banner and spirit.

Connie Allison, a resident at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Paragould, said she's practiced her bean bag toss for 3 months.

“We look forward to it every year,” Allison said. “It's wonderful to have a place like this to come to, and we usually have a bunch that want to come.”

She was one of over 300 who attended the Senior Olympics.

Twenty-four facilities from around Region 8 were represented at the event.

Allison said after 8 years of competing, she has made many friends from other facilities.

“You get acquainted with everybody, and you are always glad to see them the next year,” Allison said. “It’s just a wonderful place.”

This year’s theme was countries.
