NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) -

The City of Newport recently received a grant from Main Street Arkansas which will allow them to install "wayfinding" signs for downtown businesses.

The colorful signs will be installed on the main thoroughfare on Third Street to help people find businesses.

Each business will only pay the cost of their sign, which is about $35 to $40.

The city became a part of Main Street Arkansas this year and according to Jon Chadwell, Newport Executive Director of Economic Development the signs will enhance many aspects of the town.

"We'll have signs that direct people to businesses signs that direct people to tourism events, and we'll have signs that direct people to public buildings like city hall," said Chadwell.

The grant will cover the cost of poles and bolts, and the city will do the installation.

The deadline to apply for a sign is the September 29th and 26 signs have been purchased so far.
